“Nature” A Climate Justice Musical Manifesto

I am so excited to release my new song and video “Nature” which I created as part of my artist residency with the The Social Justice Portal Project! “Nature” is a musical manifesto for the climate justice movement, lifting up the urgency of the work necessary in order to protect our planet. The song invites listeners into the work of moving away from the extraction economies and towards climate solutions that are led by the powerful work of frontline communities.

“Nature” is the second in a three-part series with The Social Justice Portal Project entitle The Justice Suite. The first in the series, Abolition, was released in March and explores the growing social movement advocating for abolition throughout the United States. 

The Social Justice Portal Project, hosted by the 10 year-old Social Justice Initiative at the University of Illinois at Chicago was created in 2021 to bring together scholars, organizers, artists and activists to share knowledges regarding racial and social justice issues. Through working groups, public programming and artistic offerings, the Portal Project engages a large and diverse community of thinkers and organizers in exploring the fundamental questions: How do we journey from injustice to justice? What do “just transitions” look like? How do we link movement, theory, history and practice in the service of creating a better world?
