Many Messiahs Premiere at The Meany Center
I am beyond thrilled to share the magic of Many Messiahs’ world premiere, which happened on December 16th at Seattle’s Meany Center for the Performing Arts in collaboration with Early Music Seattle. Peppered with hip hop, salsa, and gospel, these all new songs borrow source material from Handel’s Messiah, while drawing out themes of social justice activism and awakening to a better future.
Composer Aaron Grad began developing Many Messiahs in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in 2020. In his role as Artistic Director, Aaron gathered together powerhouse musicians including the Grammy-nominated violinist Curtis Stewart as Music Director, and a cohort of songwriters and performers from across the US and beyond including Sonny Singh, Darian Dauchan, Michiko Egger, Naomi Wachira, Stephanie Anne Johnson, Rob Jost, Mark McLean, and me! Over the past three years we have written all-new songs and developing what would become Many Messiahs.
The premiere performance not included these skilled artists, the finale songs also included a brilliant student orchestra and community choir, from Seattle, resulting in a harmonious collaboration that elevated the concert to new heights!
