Antonio Truyols: In the Key of Solidarity with Palestine
In this episode of The Rhythm of Rebellion, Taína Asili speaks with Antonio Truyols, a brilliant pianist, composer, and educator of Peruvian, Spanish, and Puerto Rican descent. Trained in both jazz and classical traditions, Antonio’s music weaves together sounds from Latin jazz and folkloric rhythms to hip hop and beyond. He’s toured internationally, worked with artists like Wynton Marsalis and Paquito D’Rivera, and composes music that is as emotionally rich as it is politically urgent. Taína Asili first discovered Antonio Truyols through the joyful, viral reels he makes with his daughter, Vanessa Imani. But it was his song “Rise Up”, centered on Palestine, that revealed the full power of his voice as a musician for liberation, a force made even more clear in his new album, Let It Be A Tale: The Palestine Quartet.
