Albany Library Series: Plant The Seed

In this workshop we will watch Plant the Seed (11 min.), a documentary short by Taína Asili about Black farmer and educator Leah Penniman and her journey to become the co-founder of Soul Fire Farm, a national leader in the food justice movement. The film will be followed with a discussion on the history of Black farmers in the U.S. and the food justice movement, informed by the book Farming While Black, in discussion with Penniman. Participants are invited (but not required) to read the book Farming While Black: Soul Fire Farm’s Practical Guide to Liberation on the Land by Leah Penniman.
