Taína Asili Social Justice Series Day 2 – Climate Justice
UNC Chapel Hill - Campus Y
Join us for three days of programming hosted by UNC’s Campus Y with New York-based Puerto Rican singer, filmmaker, and activist, Taína Asili. Asili’s Afro-Latin fusion sound of love and liberation has inspired audiences at venues across the globe – From the Women’s March on Washington to Carnegie Hall to the mainstage of San Francisco Pride. Her freedom anthems, music videos, and documentaries inspired by social movements for racial, gender, and climate justice have been lauded by the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, and NPR. Join us for three workshops and a performance, April 12-14, 2023.
April 13th – The Climate Justice Series – 3-5PM, Campus Y Anne Queen Lounge
Taína Asili started her climate justice activism as a high school student. Today she continues to eat a plant-based diet, grow life giving food, compose songs and use every opportunity she can to contribute towards a more healthy and just planet. She has performed to support organizations and initiatives, from UPROSE in Brooklyn, NY to The California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA). She is also Board Chair of Soul Fire Farm, a food justice farm in her community that works to uproot injustice and seed sovereignty in the food system. This screening and discussion will explore the themes of three of Taína Asili’s songs and videos addressing issues of climate justice: Plant the Seed, And We Walk, and Nature.
